Client charges in Newport News included DWI - 1st offense, 2 x Civil Violation - refused blood/breath test, obstruction/resisted w/o force, driving without license, failure to obey highway sign, failure to obey highwal lane marking, and registration violoation - non-resident. A plea was negotiated with the prosecutor and the client pled guilty on the DWI and driving without a license. The other six charges were not prosecuted (Nolle Prosequi). No jail time and only one year of unsupervised probation. WOW, what a great deal!!!

Tough and tenacious, Ms. Helms noted an appeal for a client and in Circuit Court the client received a reduced sentence for charges of driving on a suspended operator's license when a certified ignition interlock was required, VA Code § 18.2-272. Violating court order when convicted of a DUI/DWI can result in fines, incarceration and an extended period of operator license suspended. The result in this case was a win!
